Call for Participation for Indigenous Performing Artists and Organizations
Linked Digital Future, an initiative led by the Canadian Association for the Performing Arts (CAPACOA), is looking to improve the visibility and representation of the performing arts in Wikidata as we enter a digital future.
A necessary part of this work is to better understand how to accurately and respectfully represent information about IBPOC artists and their practice. Our first step is to consult meaningfully with Indigenous Performing Artists across Canada. What factors do we need to recognize in order to appropriately represent these communities in the web of data?
We are calling Indigenous performing artists and organizations to participate in group consultations with our small team. The goal of the session is to understand what is working and not working for Indigenous artists and organizations when populating information about your practice, work, and artist profiles into Wikidata.
The sessions are 2 hours long and will involve the following:
- Reviewing Wikidata entries of Indigenous artists to see if Wikidata provides the ability to accurately represent Indigenous performing artists
- Considering some key research questions around items of concern that have already been flagged to us.
- Discussion about terminology related to identity, artistic practice, disciplines, and works.
- Potentially exploring recommendations and solutions from the group as a whole.
